Orland Chamber: Website design
ActiveCare IT

A website shaped around the Chamber’s work

The Orland Area Chamber of Commerce brings local businesses and the wider community together. Its website needed to make that work easier to discover and easier to join. ActiveCare IT created a shared online destination for community events, Chamber members, and purchases, giving the organization a new way to connect its mission with everyday participation.

Launched in mid-July 2025, the website combines Squarespace with Community Box. Visitors can find events, explore the member directory, and purchase memberships, products, and Certificates of Origin online. Comprehensive training helped the Chamber team learn the technology alongside the marketing and business practices needed to use it well.

Turning community interest into participation

The Chamber’s previous website was included in a $600-per-month GrowthZone subscription. Its template offered limited room to customize the experience, and routine updates were difficult. More substantial changes depended on paid services from GrowthZone. The Chamber needed a website it could shape around its own priorities, with practical support for the people managing it.

For an organization built around local connections, each part of that experience has a purpose. An events destination gives people a place to discover what is happening. A member directory makes the business community visible. Online purchasing lets someone who is ready to join complete that next step through the website.

Three ways to connect with the Chamber

Community events: A central events destination brings local activities into one place. Residents, visitors, and businesses have a shared place to look for what is happening and learn more about individual events.

Member discovery: The Community Box directory gives Chamber members a place within the website’s business community. Visitors can browse businesses, use search and industry controls, and explore a map of listings.

Memberships, products, and services: Squarespace lets visitors review membership options and purchase through the site. The Chamber can also sell products and Certificates of Origin online—capabilities its previous website did not provide. Purchase notifications reach the Chamber team by email.

ActiveCare IT brought those needs into a redesigned website and connected it with the Chamber’s wider business tools. The approach drew largely on technology already in place and enabled the organization to fully discontinue GrowthZone.

The training brought the website and the business side together. ActiveCare IT taught us how to use Squarespace and shared marketing best practices we could apply to the Chamber. That combination helped us understand how to put our new website to work.

Building the website and the ability to use it

ActiveCare IT’s work included comprehensive training in the technical use of Squarespace’s content management system. The Chamber received guidance on operating its new website, including keeping events and the member directory up to date.

The training also covered marketing and business best practices, delivered by consultants with MBAs specializing in marketing. That combination connected the mechanics of managing a website with its role in serving members, communicating value, and supporting the organization’s business goals.

More capability, one less platform

The completed website brings events and member discovery together with online purchasing. Memberships, products, and Certificates of Origin can now be purchased through the site, extending the ways people can do business with the Chamber.

By August 2025, new members were using the website’s sign-up process, and Squarespace receipts were supporting the Chamber’s accounting work. The website now connects with QuickBooks Online for accounting and Campaign Monitor for newsletters. Purchase and other attention-needed notifications arrive through Microsoft 365 email.

The Chamber fully discontinued GrowthZone, retiring its $600-per-month subscription. ActiveCare IT supported the transition by exporting and archiving historical records before decommissioning. The result was one less platform to maintain, with the Chamber drawing largely on business tools it already used.

For ActiveCare IT, the project brings website design, connected business tools, and comprehensive training into the same engagement. The Chamber received a website built around how it serves its community, together with the guidance to keep that website useful as the organization grows.
